Investigations into the alleged robbery of a Burkinabe national by occupants of a police vehicle have hit the cul-de-sac, following the uncooperative attitude of the complainant.
The principal witness in the case, Suleman Sodre, the Burkinabe, The Chronicle gathered, has blatantly refused to come down to assist the Ghana police to get to the bottom of the case.
On Sunday, February 7, 2021 Sodre, who managed to enter the country at the time the land borders had been closed, reportedly went to sell his three kilos of gold to a certain Alhaji Abdul.
On the way back to his Classic Guest House at Lapaz, in an Uber, occupants of police vehicle with registration GP 3513 stopped them and demanded why one of them was not wearing a nose mask.
Occupants of the police vehicle allegedly robbed them of $209,172.00 (Two hundred and nine thousand, one hundred and seventy two dollars), the proceeds from the gold.
A report was made at the Tesano Police Station and the case referred to the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters.
In the cause of the investigation, the driver of the said police vehicle, one Inspector Boakye Sarpong was arrested.
It came to light that the last servicing of the vehicle at the Police Service Workshop was on January 11, 2021 and was released back to him same day.
Sodre by this time had gone back to his landlocked francophone country.
Police were progressing steadily with the inquisition and needed the complainant to come down for an identification parade to enable them to move to the next level.
The Chronicle security sources, who preferred anonymity, revealed that every effort made by the detectives for Sodre to come back Ghana to assist with investigation has hit a snag, for without the complainant identifying the suspect, it would be difficult to proceed with the investigation.
At a point in time, Suleman Sodre was alleged to have proposed a date after the Ramadan fasting to come to Ghana but he failed.
The source went on thatSodre’s uncooperative attitude could be interpreted as deliberate to frustrate the investigation.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports indicate that Sodre, who had been doing business with the said buyer of the gold on countless occasions, might have been part of the robbery syndicate.
If so, and granted that he was transacting the business for his principals, either in Burkina Faso or elsewhere, then the ring would use the report to the police in Ghana as a cover-up that he was robbed.
