The timely intervention by the Offinso Divisional Police Command prevented a mob attack on a twenty-seven year old man, after he allegedly kidnapped two children at Abofour in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The Offinso Municipality has recently been a hot spot for serial killings of children, a development which has made parents and guardians unhappy.
Speaking to the media, the Offinso Police Divisional Commander, C/Supt Benedict Wonkyi, explained that last Thursday at about 14:30 hours, Kwabena Nyame of Evans Sawn Mill at Abofour, accompanied by Adiza Fusieni and assisted by the police of Abofour, reported at the divisional DOUVSU unit with victims (names withheld).
According to C/Supt Wonkyi, at about 09:30 hrs on that fateful day, the suspect, Kwaku Boahen, was seen with the victims at a nearby bush at the outskirts of Abofour township.
He continued that onlookers and bystanders suspected that Boahen might have kidnapped the children.When an alarm was raised, the suspect bolted but was later apprehended. The suspect, who was severely beaten by his captives, sustained various degrees of injury.
Wonkyi disclosed that Boahen is currently on admission at the St Patrick Government Hospital, Maase, Offinso, under police guard and he is responding to treatment.
However, the victims are safe and have been handed back to their parents while investigation continues.
