The National Health Insurance Secretariat in the Kintampo North District has held its 2020 end of year annual performance review meeting.
The meeting was part of efforts to help evaluate their performance, and also identify the sector’s strengths and weaknesses to help promote quality healthcare in the area.
The meeting, which was delayed due to the novel Covid-19 pandemic, was under the theme: “Providing Access to Financial Healthcare Service for Residents in Kintampo North Municipality in the midst of Covid-19 – The Role of Stakeholders.”
It was disclosed at the meeting that most targets set in the year 2020 were achieved by the Secretariat, as a greater number of the population were enrolled onto the scheme.
For instance, in 2019, about 37,099 mobile renewals were made as against the targeted figure of 45,325. The figure, however, increased significantly from a targeted 28,274 to 47,202, representing 69.90%, in 2020.
Addressing the participants, the Bono East Regional Director for the NHIS, Mr. George Oppong Danquah, admonished patients with NHIS cards not to pay for healthcare service received, since the government had already taken care of all expenses.
He warned health facilities that are NHIS accredited, but were still operating under cash and carry, to desist from the act or risk having their license revoked.
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Mr. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe, advised the public not to politicise the NHIS, adding that the government was working assiduously to automate and also set up NHIS hospitals across the country to help improve the free access to healthcare initiative.
He thus urged stakeholders to enhance education on the need and benefits of registering onto the NHIS to access free healthcare.
