Residents of the SNNIT residential enclave in Koforidua, within the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region, are living in fear and distress following a disturbing series of car-related crimes that have rocked the community in recent weeks.

According to affected residents, four vehicles were broken into on Wednesday, 7th January, this year, in coordinated midnight attacks carried out under the cover of darkness.
The unknown thieves allegedly forced their way into the parked cars and made away with valuable personal belongings, including laptops, mobile phones, cash, documents, and other items.
The shocking discoveries were made in the early hours of the morning, leaving car owners devastated and traumatised by the scale and boldness of the attacks within what was once considered a relatively safe residential enclave.

Adding to residents’ anxiety is an earlier incident that occurred on the eve of Christmas, when one four-wheel-drive vehicle was stolen entirely from the same area.
The vehicle has since not been recovered, further deepening fears that the enclave may be under the watch of organised criminals.
“The fact that a whole vehicle was taken just before Christmas and now several cars have been broken into again shows that we are no longer safe,” a resident lamented.
Rising Insecurity Alarms Residents
These incidents have heightened concerns over the rising rate of theft and criminal activity in the municipality. Residents say the situation has created a growing sense of insecurity, with many now afraid to leave their vehicles unattended at night, even within their own homes.

Some residents have resorted to installing additional security lights, reinforcing gates, and keeping night watch, while others say they hardly sleep peacefully anymore due to fear of another attack.
Parents and workers alike express worry, noting that stolen items often include tools and documents essential for their livelihoods.
Police Investigations Underway
The incidents have since been reported to the Ghana Police Service, which has confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for both the break-ins and the vehicle theft.
Residents are calling on the police and relevant authorities to increase night patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and enhance community policing efforts within the enclave to prevent future occurrences.
Police Crackdown: 28 Arrested in Security Swoop
In a related security development, the Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-eight (28) youth during a major security swoop conducted at identified ghettos within the New Juaben South Municipality.
The operation forms part of intensified efforts by the police to clamp down on crime and restore public confidence.
The suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities, including gambling, possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs, and the sale of unauthorized pharmaceutical products.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be processed in accordance with the law.

While residents have welcomed the police action, they continue to appeal for sustained and visible security measures to curb the growing menace of crime in the area whilst urging authorities to improve street lighting, maintain regular patrols, and encourage neighborhood watch initiatives.
For now, fear continues to grip the SNNIT enclave as residents hope swift and decisive action will not only bring the perpetrators to justice, but also restore the sense of safety and peace they once enjoyed.
