The Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, has sentenced an ex-convict, Amanda Pascal, to two years’ imprisonment for unlawful entry and stealing.
Pascal, 32, unemployed, pleaded guilty simpliciter to both counts, when she appeared before the court.
Chief Inspector Abigail Offeibea represented the Republic. Before sentencing, the court invited the accused to offer mitigation. Pascal told the court that she was experiencing leg pain, from what she described as a beating and pleaded for medication.
She also appealed to the judge to consider abridging the sentence date, citing her child’s outdooring scheduled for March 6, 2026 and extended an invitation to the judge to attend the naming ceremony.
In response to a query from the bench as to whether the accused was known, the investigator informed the court that Pascal had previously been sentenced by the Lekma District Court. Pascal, however, interjected, claiming it was the same Circuit Court that had earlier convicted and sentenced her to nine months’ imprisonment.
Delivering sentence, Her Honour Adjei-Tawiah noted that a deep fryer valued at GH¢1,500 and a JBL Bluetooth speaker valued at GH¢3,423 had been retrieved from the accused upon her arrest. The court observed that 21 pieces of trumpet mouthpieces valued at GH¢6,820, a perfume valued at GH¢586, and six cans of sardine valued at GH¢200 had not been recovered.
On Count One, unlawful entry contrary to Section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), the court sentenced Pascal to two years’ imprisonment.
On Count Two, stealing contrary to Section 124(1) of Act 29, she was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The court cautioned Pascal “for the very last time” to take advantage of rehabilitation programmes within the Ghana Prisons Service and to reform, particularly in light of her responsibilities as a mother.
Her Honour further ordered that the retrieved items in police custody be released to the complainant, Veronica Owusu Boateng.
Case Background
According to the brief facts presented, the complainant, Veronica Owusu Boateng, an Emergency Medical Team officer at the 37 Military Hospital, resides with her husband at the 48 Engineer Military Barracks, Teshie. Pascal, described as a Nigerian national living at Teshie-Lascala, was said to be a frequent visitor to the barracks.
On February 15, 2026, Boateng was informed after a church service that 21 trumpet mouthpieces she had kept for safekeeping were missing.
A subsequent check revealed the disappearance of additional items, including a deep fryer, a JBL Bluetooth speaker, a perfume, and six cans of sardine.
A review of the church’s CCTV footage allegedly captured Pascal entering the complainant’s room during the service and later exiting with bags. Pascal was arrested on February 17, 2026, within the neighbourhood.
Upon questioning, she admitted to the offence, police said, indicating that she had used some of the items and discarded the trumpet mouthpieces.
Following investigations, Pascal was charged and brought before the court, where she pleaded guilty to both charges.
