Over 100 residents in Obuasi have benefited from a free eye screening and treatment programme organized by the Mama Love Foundation in partnership with Bellview Eyecare and Optical Services.
The outreach aimed to improve access to quality healthcare, providing free eye screening and treatment, as well as screening and care for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions.
The initiative addressed the growing need for preventive healthcare services within the community.
Afua Frempong Kyeremeh, CEO of Bellview Eyecare and Optical Services, emphasised the importance of such outreach programmes, citing that many people do not voluntarily seek preventive eye care.
She stressed that the exclusion of medicated lenses from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) coverage was a major challenge that must be addressed.
She appealed to the government to look into that and consider adding it to the list. This, she said, would help resolve a lot of the eye-related cases in the country.
Love Konadu, President of the Mama Love Foundation, said the Foundation was motivated to organise the outreach after realising many people rarely volunteer for eye, ear, nose and throat screening.
She reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the needy and vulnerable in society through similar interventions.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to both organisations for bringing quality healthcare services directly to the community.
