Some workers of L’OREAL cleaning the La Pleasure Beach.
Workers of L’Oreal West Africa in Accra, a beauty product company, have undertaken a clean-up exercise at the La Pleasure Beach in Accra.
The exercise, which took place last week, was part of the company’s annual charity programme that devotes one working day within the year for community service, particularly in the area it operates.
Staff and management members of the company cleaned banks of the Kpeshie Lagoon estuary which leads into the sea, removing debris from the sand.
L’Oreal also donated 13 dustbins to the beach operators to curb littering.
Speaking to the media during the clean-up, Sekou Coulibaly, General Manager of the company, said the focus of the exercise was to exemplify L’Oreal’s commitment to contributing to the aesthetic values of the society.
He said the exercise was in line with the country’s environmental sanitation policy, which called for community participation in ensuring good sanitation for all citizens.
Mr Coulibaly said the policy called for community-based organisations to assist district assemblies, town councils and communities in the planning, funding and development of community and sanitation infrastructure for safe disposal of waste.
He indicated the company’s commitment to clearing plastics and other waste at the beach, saying “Ghana has a beautiful ecosystem and an attractive tourist location which could be harnessed to promote tourism.”
Mr Coulibaly said anything that was thrown into the sea comes back to the beach, hence the need to educate citizens, especially patrons of the La Pleasure Beach, on sanitation issues at the beach.
He urged the media to help in sensitising the citizens on cleanliness, especially the youth, who are the future leaders of the country.
