Mr John Boadu, Ag. Gen. Sec., NPP
The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo promised to change Ghana in 18 months when elected president which has been contradicted by the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu who is insisting 40 years is what is needed to transform Ghana.
“I am promising you within 18 months of a new government of the NPP, under my leadership, the face of our country, Ghana, is going to change, we are going to get out of stagnation, backwardness and move our country onto the path of progress and prosperity.
“We can do it, we have the capacity to change the circumstances of our lives,” Nana Akufo-Addo had said at a rally of the party in Tamale in the Northern Region.
This ‘new Ghana’, according to Nana Akufo-Addo, “will be a Ghana with opportunities for all, no family and friends, tribalism, a Ghana where everybody is taken care off, we will have a society that is caring and compassionate and expresses solidarity.
“Nobody is going to be left behind, we are all going to march together, hands linked together, to that great future that beckons us, here in Ghana.” President Akufo-Addo assured.
However Mr Boadu maintained that to totally transform the nation, his party would need 40 years of uninterrupted stay in power to transform the nation significantly.
“The NPP is focused on winning the 2020 elections, we are preparing towards 2020, it is not just 2020 we are looking towards, we know if we are in power for a very long time, the country will move forward.
“We need not less than 40 years to run this country, bring it to a level where we will all be happy, if you realise former President Kufuor, looking at our history from independence to date, what he did for eight years, reduced inflation, interest rates budget deficit, cocoa production increased, we brought NHIS, we left so much in the reserves, there were many things he did to transform the country.
“If President Akufo-Addo had continued after 2008 and had taken the baton from Kufuor, and if another NPP leader continued from him, we would have really moved forward,” Mr Boadu touted –mynewsgh.com
