Dr Kwame Nkrumah
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has urged Ghanaian leaders and electorates to emulate the sacrificial example of former President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah to improve governance in the country.
He said Ghanaians must inculcate honesty, patriotism, and selflessness which were the remarkable traits of the Pan-Africanist and freedom fighter who was focused on developing his nation and the continent at large.
Addressing a public lecture in Nkroful in the Western Region on the occasion of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day on September 21, he said it was necessary to celebrate the legacy of the African hero considering its impact in the country.
The event was organised by the Nkroful Community Development Association (NCDA), an organisation set up to propagate and sustain the legacy of Ghana Dr Nkrumah.
“He was the first to change Ghana into a shining star of Africa. The foundation that he laid in Ghana had never been matched and would never ever be matched,” Mr Buah stated.
As a visionary leader, he said Dr Nkrumah demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that he was capable of developing the country with his own ideologies.
Cataloguing the policies, programmes and projects of the former President, the MP said, Dr Nkrumah’s plans to develop the country spanned from education, airport, harbour, science and technology, infrastructure, industrialisation, housing facilities, among other notable state assets.
His position on national development, Mr Buah noted, was premised on selflessness, and “the work done would live forever.”
Mrs Catherine Afeku, MP of Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, explained that the former President must be celebrated for his commitment towards the development of the country.
She explained the development programmes being churned out by the ministry to boost tourism development in the Nzema area and many parts of the country, stating that the ministry was working with relevant institutions to open up the tourism potential in the Nzema area in order to support national development.
Nana Mintah Kumi, Western Regional Chairman of Convention Peoples Party (CPP), speaking on the topic, “Returning to our root: A journey to Nkroful”, described Nkroful as the Mecca of Ghana.
He called on Ghanaians to patronise the community and make it vibrant and attractive for visitors, as done in Mecca by the Arabs in Saudi Arabia.
This, he noted, would boost the local economy and generate jobs for the locals, and make the historic town an important site for revenue mobilization.
