MTN Ghana has pumped USD 144 million of capital expenditure in expansion improvement projects in the country this year.
This will cater for the coverage extension and capacity of 230 new sites in addition to the coverage extension of 200 rural sites.
The expansion improvement projects also include coverage extension capacity for 300 sites under 2G network as well as improving the population coverage by 27 per cent at 1100 sites under 3G.
Mr Samuel Koranteng, MTN Executive, Corporate Services, disclosed this at an editors’ forum held by the company in Ho last week.
With regards to existing sites, he said that the capacity of 250 and 670 sites for the 2G and 3G networks respectively would be upgraded while ‘fibre-to-the-home’ deployments would be made to 20,000 home passes.
Mr Koranteng touched on the company’s mobile money transfer services and said that it had a subscriber base of more than 8 million and recorded an average weekly transaction of GH¢ 2 billion.
