About 8,872 teachers have been recruited by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the double-track system in various senior high schools.
A statement signed and issued by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of Public Relations Unit of the GES, in Accra yesterday said the teachers have been posted to specific schools to teach specific subjects.
It said the teachers would be on probation for a year before partaking in the Teacher Professional Licensure examination for their appointment to be confirmed.
The statement said the teachers were to indicate their acceptance of the appointment to the headmaster of the school they were posted by Friday November 15, this year.
In September this year, second cycle schools in the country commenced a semester module as part of implementation of the Free Senior High School programme.
The government adopted the double-track system due to limited infrastructure within the senior high schools which prevented the schools from admitting more students.
The double-track system, according to the GES, was to help boost enrolment, reduce class sizes and engage students on a semester basis.
