The Electoral Commission has announced that on December 24, it will organise special voting for media practitioners, security agencies as well as officials of the EC expected to be deployed to monitor the upcoming referenda on December 27.
Mr Frank Nunoo, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of EC who made this known indicated that the affected personnel are only those within the carved areas for the impending elections.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting with representatives of some political parties and journalists in Sunyani yesterday, Mr Nunoo said preparations are ongoing and that training of returning officers are expected to begin next week, December 13, 2018.
The Deputy EC Director said the EC had settled on the colour green for YES vote and red for NO vote, adding that there would be only one ballot box for both the yes and no votes at all the polling stations in the designated areas.
Touching on the recently held limited registration exercise by the EC, Mr Nunoo announced that 7,619 eligible voters comprising 4,038 males and 3,581 females registered in the proposed Ahafo Region while 1,2495 comprising 5,768 females and 6,727 males registered in the Bono-East Region.
He said although the registration exercise took place at the district offices of the EC in the affected areas, 661 polling stations centres were created in the Ahafo Region while 1,137 polling station centres created in the Bono-East Region for the public to check and verify their names.
Mr Nunoo indicated that at the end of the process, 42 per cent of voters came to check their names in the Ahafo Region while 42.58 pecent also checked their names in the Bono-East
According to the Deputy EC Director 50 per cent of the population in the proposed Regions need to take part in the election and 80 per cent must vote yes to enable the regions to be created.
Meanwhile the EC says proxy and transfer of votes exercise ends today.
