Wily Boly
WOLVES defender Willy Boly has been offered the chance of an international career by Ivory Coast despite having represented France at junior level.
Boly, 27, has been approached by the Africans after playing a major part in Wolves’ impressive return to the Premier League. They face Newcastle on Sunday in mid-table having beaten Chelsea 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The centre-half was born in France and represented their under-19s but his gateway to the senior squad has been blocked by World Cup winners Raphael Varane and Samuel Umtiti and he’s eligible for Ivory Coast through his parents.
The West Africans also recruited Wilfried Zaha last year after the Crystal Palace winger felt he wouldn’t get a chance in the England side.
Boly is a cult figure at Molineux and stunned team-mates by beating the club’s new professional esports player 2-0 in a game of FIFA 19 at a recent appearance.
“Maybe, Willy should sign two contracts – for FIFA and the football,’ quipped team-mate Matt Doherty. ‘He played one of the professionals and schooled him.”
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo must decide whether to recall star midfielder Ruben Neves at St James’ Park after he missed the Chelsea victory through suspension.
Teenager Morgan Gibbs-White excelled in his first Premier League start and big things are expected of the 18-year-old Englishman.
“He can be top class if he keeps his head down and focused,” added Doherty.
“When he’s comes from the bench, he has made an impact and he made a huge impact starting against Chelsea.
“You see it happen that people come in and fade away. He has to keep working hard but I am sure it won’t happen to him.
“It mustn’t be easy at his age for people to be talking about you but not many 18-year-olds can put in a performance like he did against Chelsea.” – MailOnline
