The Rotary Club of Abeokuta (District 9110) and the Rotary Club of Adenta (District 9102) have donated 2,000 pieces of exercise books worth GH¢2,200.00 to the Ayi Mensah Municipal Assembly (M.A.) Schools.
The donation formed part of the itinerary of Rotary Club of Abeokuta annual visits to Ghana to interact with their Ghanaian counterparts.
The Rotarians also presented assorted food items to some orphanages while the Nigerian delegation took time off to visit their High Commission to also interact with officials there.
Presenting the books to the head teacher of Ayi Mensah M.A. School, during a short ceremony, Lateef Rabiu, President of Rotary Club of Abeokuta said the donation was the second they have made after visiting Ghana on three occasions since 2017.
He said their hosts; the Rotary Club of Adenta identified the school as a needy one within their jurisdiction, thus, solicited their support to procure exercise books to be given to pupils who might not be in the position to buy them.
Mr Rabiu said it was their expectation that the donation would help boost the academic performance of the pupils who might otherwise be compelled to sit out in classes without exercise books.
Mr Essel commended the Rotarians for considering the school which really has many needy but brilliant students due to the fact that most of the pupils were wards of artisans who were working on sites in the surrounding areas.
He said the donation in the past has proven to be beneficial since the exercise books were allocated to pupils who could not afford to buy the number of exercise books needed to ensure sustainable academic work.
Mr Richard Osei, President of Rotary Club of Adenta said the club has also supported the school with dual desks when it expanded its classroom blocks adding that the Adenta club was doing a feasibility study to mitigate erosion affecting the school compound.
He said the club was prepared to join hands with other stakeholders to implement a project to ensure that the school compound was conducive for juvenile playground with the arrest of the erosion which was causing major damages by creating huge gullies on the school’s compound.
