Pacquiao
MANNY Pacquiao’s potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather has been plunged into doubt after the Filipino suffered an eye injury during his win over Adrien Broner.
The 40-year-old retained his WBA welterweight world title with a unanimous points victory over the American in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Pacquiao insisted afterwards that he wants Mayweather to come out of retirement for a big-money rematch. Those plans have already hit a roadblock though after Pacquiao suffered a potentially serious eye injury.
Pacquiao’s camp are said to be concerned that he may have suffered a detached retina after suffering pain and a loss of vision on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.
He is now reportedly going to fly home to the Philippines to see an eye specialistand receive treatment. Others in the camp believe it is just a minor corneal scratch caused by the tape on Broner’s gloves.
On Sunday night, Dyan Castillejo, a former tennis player and Filipino sports reporter, posted a picture of Pacquiao wearing a patch to protect his eye as he spent time with friends and family after the bout.
She said on Instagram: “Morning after with the Champ and beautiful supportive wife Jinkee. Manny is in pain as his left eye was scraped; he says by the glove/lace of Broner about the 7th or 8th round but adrenalin and desire kept him strong till the 12th!”
