An early warning and fire detection machine worth GH¢5,000 has been presented to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters in Accra yesterday.
The machine, which was donated by Pyrotechnics Limited, and has features such as smoke detectors, siren and other panels, would help prevent fire outbreaks at the GNFS headquarters.
A retired Fire Officer, Mr Emmanuel Azagba, now working with the Pyrotechnics Limited, in presenting the machine stressed the need for the country to adopt technology to reduce fire outbreaks by installing such devices.
“We need to protect our lives, buildings and properties from fire outbreaks, so that we can save a lot as a country,” he said.
Explaining how the machine works, the Station Officer, Reuben Botchway said the device was made up of smoke detectors which could be placed in every part of the building.
“The smoke detectors will be placed on the ceiling because smoke rises upwards and when the detector detects the smoke, the system will be activated and an alarm will be sounded and when the system picks up the signal it will tell you the area where the smoke is for response,” he said.
“Also if you see the fire is somewhere else and the detector has not detected it, you can come down to the manual control to sound the alarm and alert everyone,” he said.
The Chief Fire Officer, Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson who received the machine expressed gratitude to the donors and said it would help them protect the building from any fire outbreak.
“This has come at the right time, if no one is even around and there is a fire outbreak, the machine will detect and send signal for immediate response to everywhere,” he said.
He called on other institutions to support the Service with logistics to help them accomplish their goals.
