A fire officer got drowned in a well when he attempt to rescue three persons from drowning at Gomoa Obuasi in the Central Region last Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Assistant Station Officer (ASO) Joseph Aidoo with the Agona Swedru Fire Service in the region.
The incident brought a large crowd to the scene to watch the incident with some of the people present wailing uncontrollably.
Visibly shocked residents gathered in groups to discuss the incident.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that the three persons were working on the well when they fell in it.
The incident was said to have prompted residents to call in personnel of the GNFS to assist in their rescue.
ASO Aidoo, in an attempt to save the lives of the three persons, got trapped in the water and drowned.
The three victims were later rescued and rushed to the Agona Swedru Hospital for treatment.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that the body of ASO Aidoo had been deposited at the morgue.
When contacted, the head of Public Relations of the Ghana National Service (GNFS) Divisional Officer, Grade One (DOI)Ellis Okoe Robinson, confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times in a telephone interview yesterday.
The PRO said the Central Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO)John Amartey, had since led personnel of the Service to the family house of the deceased to sympathise with them for their loss.
DOI Robinson said a delegation from the GNFS headquarters also would today visit the family to commiserate with the family.
He said the delegation would afterwards visit the scene of the incident for firsthand information and later to the hospital to see the victims.
