Vodafone Ghana Foundation has presented health equipment worth $1 million to the Ministry of Health towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Done through the collaboration with the Vodafone Global Foundation, the equipment are meant to assist the country to store COVID-19 vaccines.
The items included 459 cold-chain equipment freezers, refrigerators and cold boxes and carriers to boost storage of COVID-19 vaccines at very low temperatures and ensure safe delivery across the country.
Presenting the equipment to the Ministry of Health at a brief ceremony in Accra on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Obo-Nai, said the donation formed part of the Corporate Social Investment of the two organisations to help the country fight the coronavirus pandemic.
She said the objective of government to vaccinate 20 million people by April this year could be achieved if there were enough facilities to store the COVID-19 vaccines.
The CEO said cold-chain equipment were necessary to store and transport the coronavirus vaccines throughout the county.
“This is the reason Vodafone Ghana Foundation in partnership with Vodafone Foundation decided to support government with these 459 cold-chain facilities and refrigerators, as well as freezers,” she said.
According to Mrs Obo-Nai the donation would go a long way to help store vaccines in the country to support the vaccination exercise.
“We have been committed since COVID-19 and it’s a sign that we won’t stop. We are responsible corporate citizens and if the country has a need, this is the right time that we step in,” Mrs Obo-Nai said.
She pledged that Vodafone Ghana Foundation and the Vodafone Global Foundation would continue to partner the government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, who received the items commended Vodafone Ghana Foundation and Vodafone Global Foundation for the donation.
He said the donation would go a long way to help the country combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Agyeman-Manu said the equipment would not only be used to store COVID-19 vaccines, but other vaccines.
The Minister said the two organisations had demonstrated their commitment to the government.
