Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang, the presidential running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the 2020 General Election, ended a 10-day working tour of the Central Region, at the weekend.
The visit took her to the Agona East Constituency, where she inaugurated two community centres, constructed by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Opokuwa Sawyer, at Mankrong and Domeabra, and held a meeting with the Regional Functional Executive of the NDC and the Tertiary Education Network (TEIN) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
A statement issued by the Central Regional Secretariat of the party said the 2020 running mate also addressed a durbar held in her honour.
It said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the good works of the MP and urged the people to rally behind her and the constituency executives for a resounding victory for the NDC in the 2024 General Election.
The statement said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was a former Minister of Education, in former President John Dramani Mahama’s government, joined the Functional Executive (FEC) of the Central Region meeting, at the Regional NDC head office in Cape Coast, where she addressed the newly elected executive members.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the executives to close their ranks, and work together for the victory of former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC and all Parliamentary candidates in the region.
The statement said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was former Chancellor of UCC, and Ghana’s first female chancellor, expressed her gratitude to the executives for the successful conduct of branch, constituency and regional elections.
She urged them to work harder to enable NDC wrest power from NPP in 2024.
Dr Richard Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, assured Prof. Opoku- Agyemang that party executives were committed to the cause of bringing back the NDC to power.
