The citizenry has been urged to report any courier service that is involved in food delivery and is not adhering to food safety protocols to the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), as it intends to strictly enforce its regulation on food safety.
Subsequently, the public has been advised to take pictures of any courier service found delivering food in unhygienic containers and submit them to the FDA so that the service can be dealt with.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Food Division) of the FDA, Mr. Roderick Daddey-Adjei, gave the advice at an awards ceremony organised by Bolt Food Ghana in Accra on Saturday to honour its partners and celebrate its 5th anniversary since its establishment. The event was held under the theme: ‘Beyond Delivery: Honouring Five Years of Progress and Partnership.’
Speaking at the event, Mr. Daddey-Adjei said: “If you see any courier service, whether Bolt or anybody, and you think that the container in which they are carrying the food is dirty, please take a picture and send it to the FDA.”
According to him, food safety remains a priority for the FDA, and he commended Bolt Food for ensuring food safety and delivery through innovation, dedication, and hard work.
Mr. Daddey-Adjei noted that the collaboration between the FDA and Bolt Food over the years was a demonstration of how the private sector and regulators could work together to protect public health and promote business growth.
He said that through its partnership with Bolt Food, the FDA had trained food vendors in good hygiene practices while ensuring that consumers received safe and wholesome food.
“The FDA remains committed to working with industries and partners like Bolt Food to strengthen systems, enhance training, and ensure that innovation goes hand-in-hand with safety,” Mr. Daddey-Adjei added.
For his part, the Director of Regulation and Licensing, Postal and Courier Service Regulatory Commission (PCSRC), Mr. John Oletey Otuteye, in his goodwill message, urged the citizenry to order food from licensed food delivery services.
Mr. Otuteye further encouraged courier services in the country to leverage modern technology in their operations. He commended Bolt Ghana for revolutionising the courier service sector by promoting economic and social inclusion through innovation.
The General Manager of Bolt Food Ghana, Mr. Ali Zaryab, said that the first five years of its operations in Ghana had helped the company to learn from its challenges and how to overcome them.
Looking into the future, Mr. Zaryab noted that Bolt Food intends to expand its operations across the country, improve the Bolt Food App, and explore ways of working with financial institutions to enhance digital payments.
He also indicated that customers had developed trust in Bolt Food, with 47 per cent of them making payments using various digital platforms. Mr. Zaryab expressed gratitude to its partners for working with the company since its establishment.
Various awards were presented to restaurants, local food vendors, and courier service operators for their loyalty to Bolt Food Ghana over the past five years.
