The Volta region town of Ehi near Sogakope witnessed a big funeral for a dog over the weekend, with all that one can expect of funerals for prominent people.
It had dignitaries, including traditional rulers, who came from far and near to give the historical dog called Forfoe, a ‘befitting’ sending off.

There was a 26-page Order of Service with the biography of the dead dog as happens at virtually all human funerals, except in this case it wasn't one has witnessed before.
It was one of a kind as Stephen Atatsithe, owner of the dog, explained to Joy News why he held that grand funeral for his dog.
“The dog 23-years-old belonged to my late mother. It stayed with her for 11 and it has been 12 years since she passed on.
A group from South Africa heard the said the sad passing of the dog and they flew to come for the funeral, so they will be part of history,” he said.
Although Mr Atatsithe was unwilling to disclose the amount of money he sunk into the funeral, he was happy people donated towards the funeral.
“Somebody donated a cow and another person donated a pig to be killed for the event,” he disclosed.
But for someone advocating animal rights, he does not think that it was wrong for the animals to be killed in honour of Forfoe.
“God has given us dominion over those things [animals],” was his answer when Joy News' Derrick Ekow Sam interviewed him.
