Management of KLM airlines confirmed that passengers who were left stranded at the kotoka international airport on Saturday, will be receiving 600 euros as compensation per the company's regulations.
This follows reports that some dozen KLM passengers who were left behind due to overbooking were only paid GH¢50 as compensation.
However the country manager for KLM Dutch royal airlines Dick van Nieuwenhuyzen said the report was not the true reflection of what transpired. The passengers according to the manager have also been booked on an Amsterdam bound KLM flight tonight
He explained, " Story is only half, Indeed we were yesterday overbooked. 16 passengers. 13 passengers went home and 3 were booked in a hotel. All passengers received GH¢50 for taxi cost and were informed that they will receive tonite an emd of euro 600 as denied boarding compensation.Pitty that the compensation was not mentioned in the story".
According to him it's in accordance with European Law for air passengers, EC Regulation 261/2004, which allows passengers claim compensation up to €600 (£450) from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in such incidences of overbooking or flight cancellation.
However in the wake of such incidence , the recent incidence involving tap Portugal and Africa World Airlines, it has become more pressing for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority to pass the bill on air passenger rights in Ghana
