Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority, Robert Sarfo Mensah, says he welcomes the President’s decision to suspend him from office in good faith.
Robert Sarfo Mensah as well as the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide have been suspended by President Nana Akufo Addo.
The suspension which takes immediate effect is in reaction to the visa scandal which has rocked the country in the wake of the ongoing Commonwealth games in Australia.
A statement from the presidency and signed by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin says the decision was taken after preliminary investigations into how some 50 persons were arrested for attempting to enter Australia under false pretences in the on ongoing 21st Commonwealth games.
The statement further stated that Board Chair of the NSA, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and the Chef-de Maison for the Commonwealth, Mr Mohammed Sahnoon, have also been recalled from the games village to assist in investigations.
But speaking exclusively on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Thursday, few hours after the suspension, Mr Sarfo Mensah revealed although he was yet to receive an official letter confirming his suspension, the President had informed him of the decision by telephone.
“No one has called to inform me and I have not received any letter to that effect but the President called me and informed me. I respect his decision and welcome it in good faith. He asked me to step aside so that when investigations are conducted then we know what to do”, he said.
Mr Sarfo Mensah served notice that he will be glad to tell his side of the story if he is invited by the committee set to investigate the matter.
