Multi-Burt Award-winning author, Dr Ruby Yayra Goka is calling for a national dialogue on issues of abuse that continue to affect Ghana’s international image.
In a video released ahead of her book reading at the Accra International Book Festival (AIBF)’s Evening of Words, Music and Wine (WMW) Friday, the dentist said the time has come to build the next generation of responsible Ghanaians who will put an end to all forms of abuse.
Her message came less than 24 hours after a video in which a police officer was seen assaulting a nursing mother at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans Limited, took social media by storm.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu, has initiated steps to punish the officer in question after the video triggered a public outcry.
As an author passionate about issues of abuse especially sexual abuse, Dr Goka believes a sustained dialogue on the matter will save lives of innocent Ghanaians.
“If you haven’t had this discussion yet with your kids, with your teenagers, this will be a good time to start,” she said, throwing an invitation to families to join her at the book reading event.
Dr Goka would be reading chapters from her award-winning book, Plain Yellow, which deals with sexual abuse at the second edition of the WMW.
The event would take place at the N8tive Food and Beverage Bar near Nyaho Clinic at the Airport Residential Area on Friday, July 27, 2018.
The Accra International Book Festival (AIBF)’s WMW held on the last Friday of every month is a celebration of words, music and art. There is also wine tasting.
“Join me…let’s make it a family affair. Come with your children, come with your friends, come let’s have some good food, some good music and good literature.,” Dr Goka said.
