The police officer who was shot in the neck at Nsuta in the Ashanti region has been discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he was receiving treatment after he was attacked by robbers.
Dennis Boateng, Asiwa District Commander, was leading a team of officers on Sunday to make an arrest in connection with last week’s alleged murder of 59-year-old, Moses Obodai.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported that the shooters had mounted a roadblock, lurked in the nearby bush and opened fire when the officers got down from their vehicle to attend to the crime scene.
ASP Boateng’s driver and two personnel from the Community Policing Unit, also sustained gunshot wounds.
Both officers were rushed to KATH where ASP Boateng was expected to undergo surgery to retrieve the pellets from his neck.
But as Ohemang reports, doctors have decided not to follow through with the surgery because the pellets are lodged on certain vital veins and tendons. An operation to remove them could be dangerous.
They have, however, given him some medication to treat the pain with hopes that the body will fight the pellet itself.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old whose father was murdered is traumatised by the incident.
He is thankful to be alive and wants to quickly get on with life, register for his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as that is what his father would have wanted for him, he said.
The young man, however, alleges that his father was killed by family members who had wanted to sell a piece of land he objected to.
Erastus also went back to Nsuta and reports that the town is now “a ghost town.”
“There is nobody in the town,” he said adding that most town folks are scared of reprisal attacks.
The Ashanti Regional Crime Officer, ACP Peter Baba said three more people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Obodai.
These arrests bring the number of those involved in the murder to eight.
The suspects include the man who is believed to have fired the shot that killed Obodai.
ACP Baba said the police is working assiduously to get to the bottom of the crime.
