Black Stars captain Andre Ayew became the country’s all-time top scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations after scoring in the first half against Benin.
The 29-year-old made it goal number 9 in the Africa Cup of Nations after scoring during Ghana’s Group F opener against Benin which ended 2-2 at the Ismailia Stadium on Tuesday.
The well-taken 10th minute strike saw him surpass teammate Asamoah Gyan who has 8 goals to his credit.

2010 vs Burkina Faso
Andre Ayew came into the tournament full of confidence as he led the under-20 to a world title a year earlier. In the final group game against Burkina Faso, Andre Ayew’s header was the only goal of the game to ensure that Ghana qualified for quarterfinals.
2012 vs Mali
Ghana beat Mali 2-0 in their second group game. Andre Ayew scored the second goal after cutting inside and beating Diakite at his near post with a low left-foot shot from 12 yards after a backheel pass by Asamoah Gyan.
2012 vs Tunisia
Andre Ayew profited from a goalkeeping howler from Aymen Mathlouti to tuck home the match winner in the 101st minute to send Ghana to the semi-finals.
2015 vs Senegal
Andre Ayew scored the opening goal of the game after he slammed a penalty straight down the middle as Coundoul dived to his left. Ayew raced straight off the bench, where all the players and subs celebrated by taking a selfie.
2015 vs South Africa
Seven minutes were remaining and Ghana needed one more goal to qualify to the quarterfinals. Up stepped Andre Ayew, who bravely headed home Baba Rahman's left-wing cross to help Ghana win 2-1 and qualify to the knockout round.
2015 vs Equatorial Guinea
Andre Ayew scored the final goal of the game as he tapped the ball into the net after a pass in the penalty box by Kwesi Appiah.
2017 vs Uganda
Ghana won the game 1-0 and it was Andre Ayew who got the solitary goal from the penalty spot. He coolly slotted the ball down the middle of the goal to give Ghana their first win of that AFCON.
2017 vs DR Congo
Andre Ayew coolly dispatched the winning penalty, sending Matampi the wrong way to seal a 2-1 win and send Ghana to its sixth consecutive AFCON semi-final.
2019 vs Benin
Andre Ayew scored arguably the most important goal in his international career as he made history by becoming Ghana’s all-time top scorer at the Africa Cup of nations. Andre was found by Jordan in the penalty box and the former fired a low driven shot to score Ghana’s first goal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
