Mali have successfully defended their CAF U-17 Trophy after recording a 1-0 win over Ghana in the final game on Sunday at the Stade de Libreville.
Mali defeated the Black Starlets of Ghana 1-0 to successfully defend their CAF U-17 trophy at the Stade de Libreville on Sunday evening.
A 22nd minute goal from 15-year-old defender Semarco was enough to hand the Malians the victory.
It was end to end action in the first ten minutes of the game. Ghana created the first chance in the game but Eric Ayiah who was played through by Mohammed Iddriss shot wide.
Ghana then failed to maintained their momentum as the Malians took control of the game forcing the former championship to defend deep.
The Malians with their swift play opened Ghana’s defense and they were awarded a penalty kick in the 21st minute after John Otu brought down his marker in the box.
Ghana’s shot stopper saved the resulted kick but the Malians neatly slotted home the rebound for the first goal.
Nine minutes later, the Malians were awarded another penalty but Danlad was on hand to save the kick.
Ghana started to find their rhythm as they pushed for the equalizer. In the 32nd minute Youssouf Koita in post for the Malians produced a brilliant safe after he pushed away Rashid Alhassan’s free-kick.
The tempo of the game reduced drastically in the second half but the Malians were delight to watch.
The Malians defenders prevented Ghana from creating any goal scoring opportunities as they guided their lines very well.
