Millions of Ghana cedis have been lost following a fire outbreak at about 8 shops in Akwatia line close to Asawase office of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti region.
Some of the affected victims who were alerted by neighbours were spotted wailing for help when the fire begun around 10:12pm Sunday evening.
Some of the properties burnt include machines meant for designing furniture such as sliding doors, tables, wardrobe, windows and already designed woods.
One of the victims Fuseini Ibrahim said he lost GHC1.5 billion in the fire outbreak.
‘The fire started from a salon when the cylinder exploded spreading to other areas where they also use cylinders. We called the fire fighters but the number couldn’t go through, so one of the boys rode on a motorcycle to their office, within twenty minutes, roughly the money lost will be five billion,’ he explained.
The victims are appealing to government, churches, organisations and philanthropists to support them.
