An Education Consultant and proprietor of the Abofra World School in Kumasi Marian Baba Halarji has expressed the need for basic schools to take their teachers through periodic refresher courses.
According to Mrs. Baba Halargi, methods of educating children continues evolving around new trends and advanced teaching and learning methods.
She is however worried compared to other professions; teachers are the last to go through any professional courses to beef up their skills and knowledge set.
“Most professions like the banking profession, the medical profession, and others tend to invest a lot in having their people trained because the trend keeps changing and they have to abreast themselves with current ways of handling their profession.
“It is same with the educational field and I believe it is one of the most crucial sectors where professional development should be given priority concern,” she stated.
Mrs Baba Halargi also asked that parents take some keen interest in the education of their children as such spirited efforts go a long way to encourage and inspire children to aspire for greater educational heights.

Outlining some outlets that teachers can avail themselves for training she indicated, “I know that the social welfare handles that, the GES also has some of these programmes. I also know that there is a private body, the Community of Learning And Social Spectrum, the CLASS and they do a lot of things out of the classroom about how somebody handles your child; how can a teacher handle a child with special needs; how does a teacher make maths easy or fun for a child et-cetera’.
She asked parents to take some keen interest in the education of their children as such spirited efforts go a long way to encourage and inspire children to aspire for greater educational heights.
The Education Consultant also advised proprietors of schools to endeavour to set goals each term for their schools, teachers and the students to ensure a steady growth and holistic development of their schools.
