A new Inspector General of Police (IGP) is expected to be named this afternoon after the tenure John Kudalor has elapsed.
Earlier this morning, Mr John Kudalor was at the presidency to bid farewell to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the unveiling of a new police chief to succeed him.
Former President John Mahama in February last year swore in John Kudalor as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) with a call on him to check indiscipline on roads to avert unnecessary deaths. Mr Kudalor until he was sworn into office had been acting as IGP since the retirement of Mohammed Alhassan in November 2015.
Meanwhile, there are reports that COP Asante-Apeatu who is currently the Schedule Officer in
Charge of Information Technology at the Ghana Police Service could be the next IGP. He’s a
ballistic expert and former Director General of CID Ghana. He worked with Interpol in Lyon-
France and was fortunate to see Scrum in action. He speaks fluent Russian and French and he’s very passionate about the impact of IT on Policing in Ghana and globally.
