The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Ashanti region says is stepping up its billing system with the introduction of an electronic billing notification system.
When completed, every customer in the region will receive their bills in a form of text messages or e-mails.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, the Ashanti regional manager of the GWCL Samuel Ampah indicated that Field Officers are already on the ground with devices registering customers.
Explaining how the system is supposed to work, he indicated that, “The field officer uses a hand held devise that takes a picture of the surface of the meter. The officer will then input the figures on the meter reading to confirm. After that it comes to the main server. The necessary computations are done and it is sent through that same medium to the customer as a bill for payment. “
Mr Ampah is confident the system will help bring some efficiency to its billing system by cutting the delays in releasing bills for their customers.
