The Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network has supported the National Sports Festival with GH¢ 30, 000 worth of airtime.
The gesture forms part of the media empire support to promote sports in the country.
This year’s event will commence on Thursday August 31 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Ghana’s Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Paa Joe Park set to host events as well.
Speaking at a ceremony to announce the package on Wednesday on behalf of EIB, host of Abusua Nkomo Kwame Adinkra said it is the desire of the Network to raise awareness about the festival and sports in general.
He, however, assured the National Sports Council of EIB’s commitment in promoting sports in the country.
The National Sports Festival is a programme instituted to identify talents in promoting all sporting disciplines in the country.
Ten disciplines have been earmarked for the competition and over 2000 athletes are expected to participate in the competition.
The competition was last staged in Ghana’s capital, Accra in 2011 and the city’s Sports Stadium hosted a majority of the event with the University of Ghana and El-Wak Stadium hosting minor events respectively.
The ceremony which was held at the Golden Bean Hotel– Kumasi was graced by the National Sports Council boss Robert Sarfo Mensah, Director of Ghana COCOBOARD Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Youth and Sports minister Isaac Asiamah among other high profile personalities.
