Lawyer Maurice Ampaw is calling for the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to urgently deploy a chunk of the huge staff roll at the presidency to the farms to propagate his administration’s flagship policy “planting for food and jobs.”
According to a list submitted to Parliament detailing the staffing position of the presidency, some nine hundred and ninety eight (998) staff are currently engaged running the office of the president and its peripheral institutions working directly under the purview of the president.
The breakdown is given as nine ministers of state, 27 presidential staffers, 256 other/junior appointees and 706 employees of public/civil service staff.
Commenting on this development which has raised eyebrows, the vociferous legal practitioner insisted the development soils President Akufo- Addo’s reputation and questions his resolve to manage the public purse.
He questioned, “Has the President taken into consideration the cost to the ordinary tax payer and coupled with the 110 ministers and deputy ministers?”.
In an interview with Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote– Fumador, he said, “The President should immediately do something about this and cut down on these expenses. This is a dent on your administration and some of us are not happy.”
Maurice Ampaw fumed, “The President should start dropping the people and let them move from the Jubilee house. Get them into the farms for the planting for food and jobs.”
Sharing his views about the establishment of an New Patriotic Party Office (NPP) at the presidency, Lawyer Ampaw warned that the governing party is treading the same path that led to the massive electoral defeat of the now opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
