US-born forward Luke Martey has opened up on his decision to represent Ghana at international level at a very young age.
The FC Dallas youth team star was handed an invitation to the national U17 side as preparations continued ahead of their international assignment.
After his first training with the Black Starlets, Martey disclosed that it's a blessing to choose Ghana and his decision was influenced by his parents.
“It’s just an honour to represent Ghana. I think it’s because of my parents; they were both born in Accra and they left a legacy for me to pick up so I think representing the Black Starlets and Ghana itself is a blessing," he told Citi Sports.
“I think that’s one of the main motivations on why I chose to represent Ghana at such a young age,” Mantey added.
Although he has returned to the USA to continue his blossoming career with FC Dallas, the teen sensation left a huge mark after his first stint in camp with the U17 team.
The Black Starlets are hoping to make a return to the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time since 2017.
