Algeria have begun the search for a new national team head coach after officially parting ways with Vladimir Petkovic and his technical staff by mutual agreement.
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday, bringing an end to Petkovic's 29-month tenure at the helm of the Desert Foxes.
In its statement, the FAF announced that the decision to end Petkovic's contract had been reached amicably.
"The Algerian Football Federation announces the official termination today of its contractual relationship with the national team coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his technical staff, by mutual agreement," part of the statement said.
The federation did not reveal the reasons behind the decision or provide details about the process of appointing a successor.
The Algerian federation, in its statement, expressed its gratitude to the former coach and his assistants for their work and commitment during their time with the national team.
"The Algerian Football Federation extends its sincere thanks to Mr. Vladimir Petkovic and all members of his staff for their professionalism, commitment, and dedication throughout their twenty-nine (29) months at the helm of the national team.
"The Federation also expresses its deep appreciation for the work accomplished and wishes them every success in the remainder of their careers," the statement added.
With Petkovic's departure now confirmed, attention will shift to who will lead Algeria into the next phase of its development.
The Desert Foxes remain one of Africa's strongest national teams and face important assignments in the coming months, including preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
