Ghana Football Association Vice President Mark Addo has acknowledged that the Ghana Premier League is currently without a headline sponsor but insists that clubs are already reaping significant benefits from other commercial initiatives.
Speaking at the GFA's 32nd Ordinary Congress, Addo urged stakeholders to look beyond the absence of a title sponsor.
"So even though we may not necessarily have a headline sponsor, there are other things going on there for you to see the benefits that the teams are currently enjoying," Addo said.
One of the key benefits Addo highlighted is the direct financial support being provided to clubs. He revealed that each Ghana Premier League club is receiving approximately GH¢1 million before the start of the new season, a development he described as "unheard of".
This injection of funds is intended to help clubs prepare adequately for the campaign ahead.
Addo also pointed to the significant increase in live television coverage of league matches. The GFA produced 68 live games last season, in addition to hundreds of delayed broadcasts.
This expanded production is part of the association's efforts to enhance the visibility and commercial appeal of the Ghana Premier League.
The GFA has also secured other commercial deals that provide tangible rewards for clubs and individuals. A partnership with automobile brands Tryton Motors and JAC Motors will see vehicles awarded to the champions of the Ghana Premier League and Women's Premier League, as well as the Best Player in the Black Stars setup. Cash incentives will also be introduced for the Best Player and Coach of the Season in both the men's and women's leagues.
"I'm not going to stand here and tell you that we have one tomorrow, but I can tell you for a fact that work continues every day in trying to find the right sponsor and the right fit for the GPL," Addo said.
