Egypt FA in talks with Ghana over September friendly

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has opened talks with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda over a possible international friendly during the September break.

Egypt are looking to arrange a fixture against one of the three African nations as part of their preparations for the next phase of international football.

Discussions are understood to be at an early stage, with the EFA considering Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda as potential opponents for the proposed match.

A final decision is yet to be made, and no agreement has been reached with any of the three football associations.

The proposed fixture would give Egypt an opportunity to test their squad against another African side and maintain competitive momentum during the international window.

Ghana, meanwhile, could use the potential encounter as part of their preparations under head coach Carlos Queiroz following the Black Stars' campaign at the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

The Black Stars reached the knockout stage of the tournament after finishing third in their group, before losing 1-0 to Colombia in the round of 32.

A friendly against Egypt would also provide Queiroz with another opportunity to assess players and work on his plans for Ghana's next international assignments.

The September window is particularly important for African national teams, with the continent's football calendar entering a new phase after the 2026 World Cup. CAF's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification competition is scheduled to begin in September.

Egypt are therefore keen to use the available international period to secure a suitable opponent, with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda currently among the options being considered.

Should talks with Ghana progress successfully, the fixture would bring together two of Africa's most prominent national teams and provide an early opportunity for both sides to assess their squads ahead of future competitive commitments.

For now, however, the EFA is continuing discussions with all three associations before deciding on its preferred opponent.

The September friendly remains subject to agreement on the date, venue and other logistical arrangements.
