Black Asteroids head to Casablanca for historic FIFAe Continental Championship

Ghana’s Black Asteroids have secured their place among Africa’s eight nations competing at the inaugural FIFAe Continental Championship Africa featuring eFootballâ„¢ Console in Casablanca, Morocco.

The tournament will take place from August 27 to 29, with the eFootball Console competition scheduled for August 28.

Ghana’s qualification comes after a demanding FIFAe Nations League campaign, where the Black Asteroids had to remain consistent across several qualifying windows to earn one of the continent’s limited places.

The team made an encouraging start, finishing ninth in Africa during the opening qualifying week with 130 Consistency Points, ahead of countries including Nigeria and Seychelles.

Ghana continued to compete through the subsequent qualifying stages before securing its place in the Continental Championship during the decisive phase of the Nations League.

The Black Asteroids finished seventh in the final qualifying phase with 425 Consistency Points, earning one of the eight African qualification spots alongside hosts Morocco, Madagascar, Tunisia, Senegal, Libya, Kenya and Egypt.

Head coach Emmanuel Lawson described qualification as a reward for the team’s hard work, discipline and commitment, while setting their sights on reaching the FIFAe World Cup and making history for Ghanaian esports.

Casablanca will present a new challenge for the Black Asteroids, who will compete against Africa’s leading national eFootball teams in a single round-robin league phase.

The top two teams will advance directly to the semi-finals, while teams finishing third to sixth will contest the quarter-finals.

The Continental Championship also forms part of the pathway to the FIFAe World Cup 2026, giving Ghana another opportunity to reach the global stage.

The Black Asteroids’ progress marks another step in the development of Ghanaian esports, providing players with an alternative platform to represent the country internationally.

From online qualifying battles to a historic continental championship, Ghana’s eFootball journey now reaches Casablanca, where the Black Asteroids will look to take another step towards the world stage.
