Background
The Tema Regional Police Command, on Tuesday, January 13, intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo-Tema road.
The operation, which formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking in the region, was carried out after police received intelligence on January 10, 2026 indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region towards Tema.
Acting on the information, police teams mounted surveillance along the route, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area in the Eastern Region.
At about 12:45 am on January 11, 2026 two vehicles – a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero, registration number GC 400-22, both being driven by Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39, were intercepted.
A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of a total number of 1,613 compressed yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to contain narcotic drugs.
The suspects were immediately arrested, and both vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action. On January 12, 2026, the suspects and the exhibits were handed over for further investigations.
