Ho, Feb. 23, GNA – Voting by delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to decide who leads the party to the 2020 general election got to a smooth start in the Volta and Oti Regions.
There has not been any reported incident from any part of the two regions, two hours into the exercise.
Seven candidates are in the race for the party’s presidential ticket and all of them have their agents present at the designated polling centres, to observe things.
People qualified to vote were seen waiting patiently in queues, when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some polling centres.
At the Dela Cathedral Centre in Ho-Kpodzi, the Presiding Officer (PO), Madam Gloria Asante, said over 1,000 delegates would be voting there.
Twenty (20) out of 273 delegates had already voted at the Adaklu Waya Centre, 40 minutes after voting started.
Mr Kafui Kpe, the PO, said all had so far gone well.
Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary, told the GNA that voting was expected to begin at exactly 0700 hours at all designated polling centres in the 26 constituencies.
He said he was confident that it was going to be a successful election.
A total of 23,216 delegates from across the two regions are expected to vote in the election, which closes at 1700 hours.
