Apam (C/R), Mar. 25, GNA – Two suspects who allegedly butchered a cabbie and snatched a taxi-cab he was driving from him at the Onyadze-Abrekum stretch of the road in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region, have been arrested by the Apam District Police Command.
The suspects, Isaac Essien, alias Radii, 30 years, and Abudu Alhassan, alias Redoo, 25, a mechanic, were remanded into police custody when they appeared before the Apam Circuit Court for the police to conduct further investigations.
Their accomplice, an unnamed man is currently on the run.Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Moses Osakonor, District Commander, at a press briefing on Monday in Apam said the incident happened on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at about 1100 hours.
He said the Assemblyman of Gomoa Onyidze Electoral Area and Presiding Member of the District Assembly informed the police that a taxi driver had been butchered and his taxi snatched by some unidentified men on the Onyadze-Abrekum road.
The Police proceeded to the scene and saw the victim, known as Justice Dadzie in a pool of blood and quickly whisked him to the Trauma and Specialist hospital at Winneba for treatment but he later died.
According to ASP Osakonor, the owner of the taxi cab (name withheld) had information that his taxi had been seen at Bobikuma with an unknown driver heading towards Takoradi.
He said the owner then alerted the Police in Takoradi leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Essien who was later handed over to the Police in Apam.
He said during investigation, Essien mentioned Alhassan and the other suspect currently on the run as his accomplices.
He said on Tuesday, March 19, Alhassan was arrested at his hideout at Agona Swedru and handed over to the Police at Apam.
