Weta (V/R), June 12, GNA - Mr Kweku Agyemang Manu, Minister for Health has assured that uncompleted hospital projects and other health facilities dotted around the country will not be abandoned by the current administration.
He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attached great importance to healthcare delivery and would work around funding constraints to get them completed.
The Minister was speaking to the media during a working tour of the Weta Municipal Hospital, which was under construction in the Ketu North Municipality.
He called it "all propaganda", assertions that the present government abandoned projects initiated by its predecessor.
Mr Manu said funding for the Weta project and four similar others was initiated by the previous administration, and finalised by the present administration, which enabled work to begin in 2018.
"It's all propaganda. When we came in, my colleague here who is the Member of Parliament has started some work already in finance. We didn't abandon it. It was very early stages, but we moved to procure the loans. Something that someone dreamt about we are doing it even now", he stated.
The Minister said funding irregularities had affected the completion of the projects, and that Government was undertaking value for money audits, and would secure funds to get them done.
"We are not abandoning projects. We have had problems with how some of the projects were packaged and that is how come some of them are sitting down", Mr Manu said.
"For most projects, the money finished and the work was not done. How do we complete it? So we now have to find a way to procure more money and put it in and we are auditing to find out what happened", he said.
The Minister said some projects captured as abandoned were not under the Ministry, and that those it was undertaking would be revisited.
"We are working. We wouldn't let our spirits be dampened no matter the propaganda my colleagues try to do", he said.
The Weta Hospital, a 60 bed facility is one of five hospital projects being undertaken with an 80 million Euros grant from Austrian.
The Minister, during the tour engaged staff of health facilities towards improving health delivery in the country.
The entourage, which included stakeholders and heads of the Ministry also visited some health training institutions and interacted with students and staff.
