Hohoe United welcome Asante Kotoko to the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday, with a large turnout anticipated as the newly promoted side target a notable result against the Porcupine Warriors.
The hosts boosted their confidence last weekend with a 2-1 victory away to Bechem United, their first win on the road, aided by a crucial penalty save. Kotoko, meanwhile, needed a late effort to avoid defeat in Kumasi as they drew 2â2 with Medeama, extending their winless run to three matches.
Kotoko coach Karim Zito remains confident his side are well prepared for the challenge ahead.
“We are ready wherever. You see, we are training for the game. So we are ready for the game. We’ll go,” he told Asante Kotoko TV.
He added, “It’s normal with any club that enters the league and faces Kotoko. We never underrate anybody. We’re also playing on an unfamiliar pitch, an AstroTurf, which we’re not used to, but it doesn’t matter. We played on one in Kwara, and we won.”
“We are not underrating them at all. We are going all out for the win.”
This fixture marks the first-ever league meeting between the two clubs, adding further intrigue to the occasion.
Hohoe United have collected 14 points from 12 matches, winning three, drawing five and losing four. They have scored 12 goals and conceded 13. Kotoko hold 21 points, with five wins, six draws and a single defeat, scoring 14 times and allowing only eight goals, one of the strongest defensive records in the campaign.
With both teams eager to build on last weekend’s results and supporters set to create a vibrant atmosphere, Sunday’s contest promises an engaging battle in Hohoe.
