English-born Ghanaian midfielder, Cameron Antwi owes his mother a huge debt after inspiring his journey to becoming a footballer.
Antwi was raised in one of the rough neighbourhoods of London together with his brother Brandon, where only a few made it away from the fast criminal life of the city.
The Newport County star recalls watching his mother joggle many jobs to ensure he got the best of training.
"Yes, mum made me fully aware of the dark side of London, I knew about the menace that lurked in the streets and the alleyways. My mother made sure the bright lights and easy pay-days were never a temptation or an option to my brother Brandon or me. I am so proud of him, he is in engineer and a good person,' he told Newport Country's media.
"She kept down four jobs at one time to prop up Brandon and me. Both of us have a huge debt to her. She has been living a good life back in Ghana for the last few years, and she thoroughly deserves that!"
Antwi started his career at Fulham before moving to Blackpool but after struggles for regular game time, he joined Southport. He later featured for Telford and Cardiff before returning to England to sign for Newport.
He has since been a key figure for Newport, where he has scored two goals in 19 matches.
