Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo has pinpointed the deep understanding and unselfish rhythm within the squad as the foundation for their impressive 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign.
The Manchester United player made the comments after yet another match-winning performance, his third in as many starts, which saw the defending champions defeat Burkina Faso 3-0 to advance to the quarter-finals.
Diallo, who scored one goal and assisted another in the round of 16 victory, was once again named Man of the Match. However, he was eager to shift the focus from individual brilliance to the collective harmony that has propelled the Elephants.
"There is a genuine connection, a certain rhythm in the way we play," Diallo stated, explaining the team's current form. "No one is trying to be the hero or to shine individually for the country."
This sentiment echoed his earlier praise for the team's overall spirit. "We fought together as a team. Everyone is focused on contributing in whatever way they can," he said.
"There is also a real chemistry on the pitch, a closeness between us that makes our play more fluid. If I have the chance to make the pass, I do it. It's instinctive; I give him the ball. That's how we play."
This philosophy of collective responsibility and instinctive teamwork has carried Ivory Coast into a high-stakes quarter-final clash against Egypt on Saturday, January 10. Diallo and his teammates will rely on that same genuine connection as they continue their quest to retain the continental title.
