From the reopening of the new AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine, through the establishment of the Obuasi campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the government has added another impetus to the lives of the people in the mining town with the provision of asphalt overlay for all the road networks in the town.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwasi Amoako Atta, on Tuesday inspected the much improved Obuasi Town Roads project being executed by Justmoh Construction Works, and the Anhwiankwanta-Obuasi Highway, also being executed by the same contractor.
To show appreciation to the government for coming to their aid, a good number of the residents lined up by the streets of Obuasi singing “Nana, WoY? Bue” to greet the two ministers as their convoy passed by.
Mr. Osei Mensah said in spite of the presence of the COVID-19, the government was committed to deliver on its mandate, and said by the end of 2020, “we will see significant improvement in the road network in the Ashanti Region.”
He recalled Nana Akufo-Addo’s pledge prior to the 2016 general elections to bring back AngloGold Ashanti and set Obuasi onto the path of economic recovery, and added that “what we are witnessing today is a demonstration of the government’s pledge to the people of Obuasi.”
Mr. Akwasi Amoako Atta, on his part, commended the two contractors working on the Anhwiankwanta-Obuasi highway and the Obuasi town roads projects for a good work done.
Mr. Justice Amoh of Justmoh Construction said though he was expected to complete the 40-kilometre Obuasi town roads in 24 months, he hoped to finish ahead of time, and called for support from all residents of Obuasi towards the early completion of the job.
