The Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, has cut the sod for the rehabilitation of a 5.2 kilometres major road in Obuasi.
When completed, drivers from Tutuka, a suburb of Obuasi, wishing to go to Kumasi, will no longer pass through Kunka but ride on the new road, which starts from the post office through Kokoteasua and Government Hill to join the Obuasi-Kumasi road at North Nyamebekyere.
Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, who is the Member of Parliament for Obuasi West Constituency, said he was extremely happy that a major campaign promise had been fulfilled.
“Obuasi, and for that matter Kokoteasua people, have gotten their share of the ‘year of roads’ as promised by the President, and on behalf of Nananom and the entire people of Obuasi, I sincerely thank him.”
He called on the two contractors on the project, Justmo and Mosons Construction Limited, to do diligent work to avoid any criticism from the public.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Elijah Adansi Bonah, charged members of the various suburbs where the road passes through to co-operate with the contractors to ensure the early completion of the project.
The consultant on the project, Mr. J.B.S. Ansong, called for an amicable solution to any problems that might arise during the construction period to avoid any litigation.
The Chief of Kokoteasua, Nana Yusif Darkwa, who presided over the sod cutting ceremony, thanked the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, for coming to the aid of the people of Obuasi with the project.
He appealed to the contractors to consider employing some of the youth of the Kokoteasua community when construction work fully begins.
