2026, year of infrastructure development – President Mahama declares

President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that 2026 will be action-packed with major infrastructural development across the country.

“Our main aim for 2025 was to stabilise the economy. Because of that, all our efforts were directed towards that goal, and by the grace of God, things are improving from what we inherited. Some of the things we promised during our campaign will come into full force next year,” President Mahama stated in Twi.

He made the remarks at the Presidency in Accra on Tuesday, while responding to a visit by the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, who led a delegation to congratulate the President on his election and highlight the developmental needs of the Juaben area and the Eastern Region.

Among the developmental needs raised were the expansion of the congested Koforidua Central Market, completion of the Koforidua Government Hospital, the abandoned affordable housing project, and improvements to Koforidua town roads.

President Mahama noted that while the primary focus on broader infrastructure development would shift to next year, road improvements could not be overlooked.
“Because of that, the Finance Minister has budgeted GH¢13 billion for the Big Push initiative, and major roads across the country have been identified, with work ongoing on them,” he said.

He confirmed that the Koforidua market is included under the market enhancement programme by the Office of the Vice President, assuring that sod would be cut soon for the project to commence.

On the hospital initiated by the previous government, President Mahama assured, “We’ll complete it. The Finance Minister has made provision for it in the budget.”

He disclosed that he had directed the Minister of Works and Housing to take inventory of all abandoned affordable housing projects and report back for action.

Additionally, the President said the government would roll out the district housing scheme, with GH¢500 million allocated to this initiative. He emphasised that developmental projects would be distributed fairly across the country to ensure that every region benefits.

Daasebre Kwaku Boateng commended the President, saying, “For the good work you are doing, you are on track. Keep it up and history will be kind to you.”
