Nathan Opoku has completed a move to Northampton Town from Leicester City, with the League One side securing the Ghanaian striker on an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old forward has signed a three-year contract and becomes Northampton’s 10th addition of the summer transfer window. He follows Matty Warhurst and Joe O’Brien-Whitmarsh, who have also agreed long-term deals with the club.
Opoku, who stands at 6ft, is capable of operating anywhere across the forward line and brings pace and attacking versatility to Northampton’s squad.
The Ghanaian youth international joined Leicester after making a strong impression in the American college system. He helped Syracuse University win its first NCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Championship, scoring 11 goals in 25 appearances during his time with the programme.
He later gained experience in European football during a loan spell at Belgian top-flight club OH Leuven, where he found the net five times.
Opoku subsequently moved to Newport County for the 2025/26 campaign and enjoyed a productive season with the Exiles. He scored six goals in 16 starts, finishing the campaign as the club’s leading scorer.
Northampton will now hope Opoku can carry that goalscoring form into his new challenge as they strengthen their attacking options.
His transfer remains subject to work permit approval before the move can be fully completed.
